Fun in the City - What New York, New York Has to Offer

When visiting New York City, it isn’t hard to understand that you are in one of the most famous and beloved cities in the world.  There are many things to see, do, and enjoy, and finding the time to fit everything in is next to impossible.  What follows is a guide to some of the most famous attractions throughout this remarkable city.

Central Park

Central Park is a beautiful 843 acre park in the center of the city.  Because there is very little open grass area within the largely urban area, the park is somewhat of a mecca for nature lovers.  There are ice skating rinks, lakes, beautiful gardens, and much more located here, and the park brings in visitors from all over the  world.  It is also a common site for movies and television shows.

Broadway

Broadway is well known as the home of the best theater in the country.  Plays, musicals, and other performances are offered nightly and there are a large number of venues along the Great White Way.  Some of the world’s leading film actors got their start on Broadway, and many stars are still happy to take part in the magnificent shows offered here.

The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

One of the most globally recognizable symbols of the United States, the Statue of Liberty was built in 1886 on Ellis Island and stands tall as a symbol of welcome to people from all over the world.  The island itself was the spot where immigrants once came to make the nation there home, and while it was open, some 17 million people passed into our country.  There is a remarkably museum on the island that chronicles its amazing history.
The Guggenheim Museum

When visiting art museums in New York City, you will find plenty of choices.  The most famous and remarkable of these museums, however, is the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.  Here, visitors can find works of art by Picasso, Manet, and many others.  The building itself was created to resemble a sculpture of its own and was designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

The Ground Zero Museum Workshop

September 11 was one of the darkest days in United States history, as the city’s famed World Trade Center towers fell at the hands of terrorists.  At this museum, visitors can take a look at the history of the towers as well as the history of that day.  There are photos and videos as well as many artifacts, and visitors can see the plans for the future of this historic site.

They say that everything is bigger in Texas, and when it comes to attractions they may just be right.  Houston is an excellent city with plenty to offer the many people that come to visit every year.  What follows is your guide to some of the very best things that the city has to offer people of all ages.

Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center

The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center is the home of Mission Control, which is where all of NASA’s manned space flights are monitored and where the NASA ground control team speaks with astronauts in flight.  Here, visitors will find numerous exhibits as well as the chance to try on space suits, ride in a spacecraft simulator, and even see rockets.  The museum also offers visitors the chance to run into real astronauts, who often train right onsite at the training facility.

The Astrodome

The Houston Astrodome is perhaps best known as the home of Major League Baseball’s Houston Astros, but there is so much more on offer.  At the Astrodomain, which houses the Astrodome, visitors can find an amusement park, a water park, and more.  There is a large exhibition hall that is used for everything from conferences to rodeos, and the complex also offers the remarkable Astroneedle, which stands a whopping 460 feet high.

The Byzantine Chapel Fresco Museum

This remarkable museum is a historic religious museum that offers a number of beautiful Byzantine frescos.  The chapel offers a number of historical pieces yet remains surprisingly simple.  Visitors come to the chapel every year to enjoy quiet meditation in the low lighting and nearly silent atmosphere where there are numerous opportunities to explore the religious history of the area.

Houston Museum of Natural Science

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is an excellent place for visitors of all ages.  Here, kids can explore a real dinosaur skeleton or walk into a hands on butterfly center that spans six stories.  There is an IMAX theater for visitors to enjoy while watching unique and fascinating videos as well as numerous plants and minerals.  This museum offers many hands on activities that make it ideal for families.

Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo is another attraction that is well suited for families.  Here, visitors will find a large array of animals that offer people the chance to get up close and personal.  There is a large housing area filled with various reptiles and amphibians as well as a significant primate collection.  Kids will certainly enjoy the petting zoo, which allows them to not only pet the animals, but to brush them and interact with them.
