Easy Tips for Finding Parking While on Vacation

Thursday, 31 March 2011 02:29 by Mandy
Have you noticed that when you are on vacation, one of the biggest sources of stress is finding parking? If you drive your own car or rent a vehicle, you will need to deal with the hassle of parking every time you go somewhere, and the combination of navigating an unfamiliar city and locating the best parking can be more than a little frustrating. To make things easier, here are some quick and easy tips on how to find the best parking while on vacation.
Find a Parking Map
Many cities offer a map that is specifically designed to include parking locations in the busiest areas. Some of these maps may be available online, or you may be able to get one from your hotel. If you can find ones of these maps, it can prove most helpful during your trip since you can plan out a parking garage or lot near the attraction you are visiting instead of having to spend time driving around and looking for a place to park.
Find Out Parking Rules
Some cities have quite strict rules about curbside parking. Some cities include parking meters while others do not allow such parking at all. In order to make sure to avoid expensive parking tickets, find out the rules in advance and abide by them while you are on your trip. If the city you will be visiting includes parking meters, make sure you have plenty of change every time you have to use one, and do not allow the meter to expire.
Consider Private Parking Lots
There are upsides and downsides to this, and you will want to consider each. Parking lots that do not belong to the city can save you money since they usually only charge a onetime fee per day. However, they may not necessarily offer the same level of security or lighting. If you locate one of these lots and you feel it is not safe, you may want to consider other options. If the lot is not well lighted, be sure to get back to your vehicle before dark.
Discounted Long Term Parking
If you will be on vacation for more than a few days, many cities offer discounted long term parking passes by the week. These can save you a great deal of money, and they will often give you access to all city owned garages and lots, making it easy for you to find a parking spot no matter where you will be in town while saving you money as well. These long term passes are often available online so that you can purchase in advance or at parking garages when you make your first purchase.
When you are planning your vacation, do not let the stress of parking keep you from enjoying the trip. With just a few bits of advance planning and consideration, you can easily locate parking areas that will give you access to the activities you want to enjoy. Be sure to always learn the city’s rules for parking so that you can avoid tickets and fees while you are on vacation.

Why Self Parking is the Best Option

Wednesday, 23 March 2011 02:12 by Mandy
When you are on vacation, there are many different expenses that can eat away at your budget. One of these expenses can be parking if you do not make smart choices. One of these choices has to do with how you choose your parking. There are many occasions when valet parking may be available, and since you will not know the area parking lots, this may seem like the better option. However, there are numerous reasons why you will want to choose self parking. Consider these reasons and you will soon find a great way to make your vacation all the better.
A Difference in Fees
Self parking does not usually charge as high of a fee. Chances are, you will be given the option of valet or self parking no matter where you visit. In almost all cases, both types of parking will charge a fee, but if you take a moment to look at the fee schedule, you will find that self parking is usually several dollars cheaper. When you add those dollars up over the whole extent of your vacation, you will find that you can save anywhere between fifty and one hundred dollars or even more.
No Need for a Tip
When you use valet parking, it is customary to tip the valet. This tip may only be a couple of dollars, but those dollars can add up as well. If you choose self parking, you will not have to tip yourself, and you can save yourself that amount of money as well. When you add the tip to the difference in fees, you will be surprised at just how much you can save.
Easier Access to Locations
When you choose self parking, you will have the ability to park where you want and when you want. Often, valet parking is limited to certain hours and certain areas. If you will be visiting more than one location in the area, you may want to choose a parking option that is central to all the areas you will be visiting during that day. This way, you will not have to pay to park at every location that you choose and you will not have to walk as far either.
Control Over Your Own Vehicle
Sometimes, the idea of a complete stranger parking your vehicle can be a little worrisome. After all, you will have to depend on them to drive safely and park your vehicle in a safe location. While most valets are completely trustworthy, there are those few who are not. If you feel uncomfortable with the idea of someone else parking your vehicle, then self parking would be the best option.
When you are planning your vacation, there are many reasons why self parking is the best option. It can save you money as well as time and frustration. If you choose self parking, be sure to familiarize yourself with the parking garages available in the area that you will be visiting so that you can quickly and easily find the best places to park during your stay.

Saving Money on a Family Spring Break

Thursday, 17 March 2011 06:10 by Mandy

Spring break is an excellent time for a family to take a fun and exciting vacation. However, it seems like any vacation you could plan for that week will be more than most budgets can handle. If you want your family to be able to enjoy a spring break vacation, then here are some helpful tips for saving money while still enjoying your vacation. After all, your children are growing up fast; you do not want to miss a chance to spend quality family time with them while they are still young.

Of course, with any vacation, one of the priciest parts is finding a hotel. The worst part is, most accommodations will charge even more during busy times like spring break. When it comes to finding accommodation for your family, it is important to look for ways to save money. The earlier you can book your hotel, the better for saving money. Additionally, if you spend time looking for discounts, you can usually find a much better price. Visit the discount websites that offer hotels as well as car rentals and flight packages. If you have to fly, then you can even package the plane and accommodation for better prices.

If you do not feel that you can find a hotel that fits within your budget, you could consider something a little different for family spring break. You and your family can enjoy the great outdoors by going camping. There are plenty of camping locations around many different attractions, so your family can enjoy a combination of “roughing it” while still being close to fun activities. Camping will save an immense amount of money since you will not have to pay for a hotel and you can even save money on food.

The second most expensive part of your family spring break vacation will be the food. After all, you and your family will have to eat, and restaurants are not cheap. The best way to save money here is to do research in advance on the Internet. Many restaurants include coupons right on their website, and many larger cities have discount websites where you can access coupons and discounts to many different restaurants.

If you take your family camping, you can pack food and enjoy cooking around the campfire, which will save you a great deal of money.

Think Ahead

One of the more expensive things that can come up by surprise on a family spring break vacation is having to buy incidentals like sunscreen, disposable cameras, batteries, hats and others. When you forget these things and have to buy them on vacation, you will end up spending more money if you buy from touristy locations. If you start planning your packing at least a week in advance, you can make sure you do not forget these incidental things.
