Getting Ready for Super Bowl Travel

Tuesday, 31 January 2012 02:05 by Mandy

Millions of Americans will hit the roads and the airways to head to various destinations during the Super Bowl and hit up favorite local sports to watch the big game and cheer on the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.  Travel can be quite stressful, with airports filled to the brim and cars jamming the roads. If you are planning to travel this season, there are a few things you need to know and have ready prior to leaving.

Travel by Plane

If you are going on a plane, there are a lot of things that you need to do to get ready. First, you want to pack smart. Do not stuff suitcases to the brim. If airport security needs to check your bags the process could end up taking a very long time if you have way too many things inside. Pack only what you need and cut down on the unnecessary extras.

Next, make sure that if you have any liquids or gels, including food items like jelly and salsa, in your carry-on that you have no more than 3.4 ounces. Any more than that and you will have to pack these items into your checked bag or leave them back at your home.

Plan where you will park before you leave for the airport. If you are flying out of Buffalo International Airport for example, you have several options to choose from:

  • Valet Parking

Valet parking might be the most expensive option, but it is also the most seamless. All you have to do is drive right up to the valet, hand them your keys and you are ready to go. If you have the extra cash, this can be your best bet.  Airport Valet Parking at BUF is a great choice for this.

  • Self-Parking

Self-parking takes quite a lot of time out of your day. You will have to drive around the lot to find a spot.  Then, if you are very far you will need to take a shuttle to your terminal. Allow plenty of time if this is the option you want to choose.

  • Reserved Parking

You can get onto the airport website prior to your trip and reserve your parking spot with Airport Parking Connection. You can pay ahead of time and will be able to possibly get a very close spot, however this is a slightly more expensive option and it requires prior planning.  A great option is to reserve online with Thrifty Airport Parking at BUF.

Travel by Car

Depending on how far you are going to Indianapolis, you should make sure that you have plenty of gas for your road trip. Know your route so that you do not end up wasting a lot of time and energy driving to the wrong place. If necessary, get a GPS device, a good map or both so that you can take the best route to your travel destination.  Indianapolis International Airport may even have shuttles running to Lucas Oil Stadium where you can park at Ace Rent a Car or at Indy Park Ride & Fly and shuttle to the stadium.

Get your oil changed and a tune-up done prior to a long road trip. Check air pressure in the tires and ensure that everything is in good working order.

Hit the road at non-peak times (like rush hour) to avoid serious traffic jams. Pay close attention on the road and you will have a safe drive to your hometown or other destination.

Bucket List Experiences Are Among Top Travel Trends This Year

Monday, 16 January 2012 04:48 by Mandy

These days, more and more people are looking to cross exciting travel destinations off of their bucket lists when they go on vacation. Bucket list destinations range from person to person and are as unique and different as the people taking these trips. Whether this trip is camping out in Yosemite park or heading to Australia for a week, more people are looking for opportunities that will only come up once in their lifetime.

So what sorts of vacations are people taking to cross off their bucket list? Here are some of the top vacations that people want to take in the next year.

·         South American Destinations

More people than ever are choosing to travel to South America. This continent has a lot to offer any traveler, regardless of the types of activities that they like. Many skiers say that Patagonia tops their bucket list of places to ski before they die and in the next year more skiers than ever are expected to descend on the area. There are also amazing skiing destinations in Peru. Shopping, dining and beaches can be found in countries all over South America.

·         Venice

Venice has always been a popular place to go, but now more than ever people want to take a trip to the romantic Italian city. Venice has a lot to offer culturally and is a beautiful place. It certainly is a no-brainer that so many people want to head to this European hot spot.

·         African Safaris

Recent polls indicate that people are less apprehensive about traveling to other countries than they have been in the past, therefore more people are willing to step out of their comfort zone and cross a vacation to Africa off their bucket list. While some areas on this continent are still very unsafe for travel, Kenya is one good spot to go. A Kenyan safari offers an experience like no other that you will have in your lifetime. You will see beautiful animals in their natural habitat, breathtaking Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background, and vast grasslands that stretch as far as the eye can see.

·         The Great American Road Trip

Many Americans report that traveling all over their fair country is something that they have always wanted to do. With airfare prices creeping up, taking a drive all over the country is a good way to see the many historical and natural sites without having to pay for a place ticket. This kind of trip can unfold as you travel and you can decide where exactly you want to go as the trip gets underway.

If you are planning to take a bucket list vacation to another country, you will need to figure out what to do with your vehicle while you are away. Parking at Nashville's BNA airport can be a challenge for example, but if you allow yourself a little extra time, self parking at FlightPark can be your best option. It is usually cheaper than other parking and will save you money in the long run as long as you have the time. You can also pay ahead online at Airport Parking Connection, so that as soon as you get home from your trip around the world you do not have to worry about paying.
