Family Travel Safety

Tuesday, 3 January 2012 05:27 by Mandy

Traveling with the family is a fun experience that many people really look forward to. Most people take at least one vacation per year with their family to various destinations all over the country and the world. While traveling with the family can be one of the best experiences of your life, it can also be dangerous. Traveling of any kind can have some dangers that need to be watched out for and if you have small children with you and traveling out of a big airport like Atlanta aiport, then you need to be especially vigilant. These travel safety tips should keep your family safe on your next destination.

•Do as much research on your destination as possible and be prepared

Preparation is the key to proper family safety on vacation. Research the place that you are going and find out about any travel restrictions, recent crime threats and any health issues to be aware of. Contact your health insurance company to review your policy and to ensure that you and your family members are protected in case you contract any illnesses while in another country. Also, make sure to get any necessary shots for everyone in the group and bring the prescription medications that you need.  Research and reserve your airport parking ahead of time so that you can know exactly where you are going when park at Albany airport parking.

Find out as much as possible about any hotels that you will be staying in. Check online reviews and ensure that they are safe, family friendly places. Do not go to any tourist areas that have travel restrictions placed on them. Check out the American government website to find out about such restrictions and other recommendations.  You can reserve parking at the Days Inn and Suites or the Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Airport North and stay in the hotel.

•Pack wisely

Leave valuables, such as diamonds and heavy jewels at home. There is no need to travel with these and wearing them can signal to thieves that you have money.

Bring copies of important documents like drivers’ licenses, passports and health insurance cards. Also, make sure to scan copies and email them to yourself so that even if baggage is lost you have a record of these important items.

•Cautious Sight Seeing

When your family is out and about on vacation, make sure that everyone stays together or at least stays in pairs. No one should ever be alone. It is not wise to leave small children alone in a hotel even if you will be in the downstairs lobby. Make sure that your little ones always have an adult with them. If necessary, bring a trusted friend or relative along with you on vacation so that you can ensure your children always have an adult to monitor them.

•Cash Tips

Pay very close attention to your cash and avoid using a big purse. Keep money in your wallet or in a concealed pocket.

Prior to departing on your flight, make sure to keep your parking ticket with you at all times after you have parked your car, whether with valet, self-parking or reserved parking. Never leave your ticket in the car. If someone steals your car they will be able to exit the lot much easier if the ticket is inside of the car. Ensure that you have this ticket with you at all times on vacation so that you do not come home to find out your vehicle has been stolen.  You could reserve ahead of time for Albany airport parking at Albany Park, Ride & Fly and have your parking needs taken care of on Airport Parking Connection.

5 Tips for Smoother Holiday Travel

Thursday, 22 December 2011 03:05 by Mandy

Traveling during the holidays can be a hectic experience. Many people are flying or driving to various destinations all over the world at one time, which can lead to major traffic jams and long wait times at airport security. Add to that the fact that the holidays are during the late fall and winter, so the chance for severe weather is always a possibility. Bad weather can lead to delayed and even cancelled flights, leaving people stranded at the airport for days. If you plan to travel this holiday season, there are some things that you can do to make your trip smoother.

1.Plan Your Flight or Drive for the Holiday

Most people fly or drive one to two days prior to the big holiday. If you alter your plans and leave the day of the holiday, you will be awarded with far less traffic and fewer people at the airport.  For example,  LAX airport parking will be a much easier task and you will not have to fight with people to get a seat to wait for your flight. Consider this option if you really want to cut down your travel time.

2.Mail Gifts Instead of Bringing With You

If you will be flying to your holiday destination but want to bring gifts for those you will be seeing, your best bet is to send the gifts ahead of time. Bringing packages on the plane can be quite a hassle. These days, most airlines charge for your checked bag, which means you may have to pay to bring the presents with you. This fee could be more than the cost of sending the gifts ahead of time. You also may find that any wrapped gifts you put into your checked bag or carry-on may be unwrapped by airport security.

3.Bring an Empty Bag or Suitcase

A fold-up bag or small duffel that is empty can help you to get your presents home without any stress. Preparing for presents leaves you with less worry about how to get your holiday gifts home.

4.Decide Where You Will Park Ahead of Time

Parking at the airport is a known hazard, especially during the holidays when there are so many people there. Decide ahead of time which lot you will park in and how to get there, best of all you can reserve your parking at LAX, SJC, or SFO. Look up the airport online and you should be able to find maps. Determine whether you will prepay with Airport Parking Connection to save time or whether you will pay after the trip. You can also reserve your spot if you want so that you can drive right to your spot quickly. Planning this is essential to having a smooth holiday trip.

5.Prepare for Delays

Whether traveling by plane or by car, make sure to allow extra travel time. Weather can cause delayed flights, closed roads, or a slow drive, so ensure that you are giving yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. Bring a book with you and get ready to wait during holiday travel and just remember to relax. There is no need to add extra stress during the holidays by getting stressed out over something you cannot control.
