How to Streamline the Travel Experience

Thursday, 21 July 2011 02:46 by Mandy
Whether you’re flying for business or for pleasure, the airport can be a stressful place.  The latest security restrictions keep us safe but at the same time are making travel more inconvenient.  Here are some ways to help streamline your next travel experience.

Pack Lightly

Keep your suitcase neatly packed with some room to spare.  Jamming in your items will only make things worse if your bag needs to be opened.  Don’t bring anything questionable.  Always check your airline’s online regulation list so that you are prepared.  Hold a small carry-on bag with you in case you may need it. Make sure that you bring liquids in the properly sized containers or you’ll end up throwing them away.

Know Where to Park

Parking can be a hassle at the airport.  Not only is it crowded, but it’s also quite expensive.  To keep parking easy, use an offsite parking lot.  These lots offer lots of features that make traveling easier.  For example, you can reserve a parking spot for the exact day and time you need it.  You can also prepay your parking.  You’ll also be able to use valet parking, making the experience easier than ever.

Get Through Security

Heightened security measures can make travel more difficult.  Getting through security is easier if you’re properly prepared.  Look up the latest security regulations so that you can follow them. Don’t try to bring anything that is not allowed.  If you’re bringing gifts, be sure that they are unwrapped.  Otherwise, you’ll have to wait while security unwraps each one.  Wear loose clothing and empty your pockets so you won’t set off the alarm.  Pare down your purse or carry-on so that it is organized and easy to look at.  Wear sandals so that you can more easily take off your shoes to go through security.

Wait Patiently

Unfortunately, there is a lot of time spent waiting at the airport.  With increased security measures comes the mandate to arrive even earlier than ever for your scheduled flight.  There is no sense in getting stressed out over the process.  Instead, know that you’ll certainly be waiting at the gate and possibly on the plane as well.  Bring along plenty of things to do.  Grab yourself a book to read or a newspaper and magazine.  Airports have WiFi so you’ll be able to use your laptop or Blackberry while you’re waiting.  Bring along a sweater or jacket that you can use to hold your seat in the gate waiting area.  Arrive at the gate early and choose a seat that has a good view and plenty of space around it.

Be Organized

Keep all your travel papers neatly in one place.  You’ll likely need to refer to them often and it’s much easier to find them if you have them organized.  If you made your own travel arrangements type out your own itinerary so you’ll have all the information you need on one easy-to-read sheet.  Bring your passport and driver’s license with you for identification.

Top 5 Ways to Improve Traveling

Tuesday, 14 June 2011 01:13 by Mandy
Traveling can be stressful and tiring, especially if you’re not properly organized for it. If you want to make travel less stressful and more fun, follow these 5 ideas for making travel easier.

Prepare

One of the worst things you can do is show up at the airport without the proper expectations.  If you are aware of the procedures ahead of time you can often avoid long waits and extra security checks. Check with your airline to find out the current rules and regulations that must be followed.  It’s much better to plan for these rules than to find out after you arrive for your flight.   If your airline allows only one carry-on and you need to bring more, consider sending your belongings through a package delivery service and never forget to reserve your airport parking early.  Don't be caught waisting time searching lots for a space.

Pack

Proper packing will help improve your entire trip.  Not only will it make travel easier, but it will also ensure that you have everything you need.  Make a list and stick to it.  Keep everything neatly organized so that your suitcase will be easy to use.  Utilize clear plastic bags to keep small items neat while traveling.  Don’t stuff your suitcase too full.  Keep in mind that the bag may need to be opened and looked at by security.  Bring a carry-on with some basic toiletries and other essentials that you may need if the flight is delayed.  Use only small sized bottles that are within the TSA standards.

Park

Consider making a parking reservation.  You’ll be assured of having a place to park without having to drive around a crowded lot looking for a space to open up.  An offsite lot is a good option because it’s not only convenient, but it’s also less expensive than using the airport lot.  You’ll also be able to pre-pay if you would like and can utilize a valet to make parking even easier.  The last thing you want to do is end up stressed out when you arrive at the airport due to parking problems.

No Stress

Face it, travel is going to include a lot of wait time.  You’ve got to get to the airport early but then you’ll be sitting around with nothing to do.  To stay calm, bring some things to keep you busy while you’re waiting.  Your computer or iPod are useful since the airport will have a WiFi connection you can use.  Bring a book to read or grab a puzzle book to do while waiting.  If you are traveling with children, be sure to bring plenty of things that they can do to stay busy.  handheld games and music devices are both good options for kids and teens.

Keep in Touch

Use a cell phone app or phone call to stay in touch with your airline.  You’ll be able to find out whenever there is a change to the schedule.  Before leaving for the airport in the morning, call the airline to be sure your flight is on time.  Some airlines offer apps that give you up-to-date info on their arrivals and departures as well as weather conditions.
