Forged from the mind of great World War I flyer and enthusiast, Charles Hanna, who set out to enhance the city of Syracuse with a first class airport. Originally used for air shows that included famous pilots such as Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart, the outbreak of WWII turned the airport into a permanent location for air bombers. In 1946, the City of Syracuse took over operations and developed the base into a major port of entry nto the United States and renamed it Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
